九江之厚，厚之于史。山背遗址，深藏新石器时代文明①，商周矿冶，闪耀青铜器灿烂光芒②。春秋战国，人称“吴头楚尾”，秦王一统，设郡始以定疆。高祖六年，灌婴筑城，自此以降，人兴气旺，由柴桑称江州，改浔阳为德化，名虽更而位益重，经数朝而久不衰。因有九派汇流通江达海之便，向为万商云集舟来楫往之区。著名口岸，七省通衢。三大茶市有其名，四大米市有其位。更倚控江扼湖之势，历为兵家必争之地。多少金戈铁马，几许折戟沉沙。东吴水师，屯军布防，周瑜披甲，甘棠点将③。岳飞镇守，尽报国之忠。元璋鏖战，开大明基业。太平阵垒，血溅刀光剑影。租界内外，怒卷反殖声浪④。南昌起义第一枪，斯地策划；国共宣言齐抗日，斯地发表。一九四九，风雷激荡，东起江阴西至九江，百万雄师横渡长江，红旗指处阴霾扫，江城从此乾坤朗。
九江之美，美在山水。庐山雄秀，中外闻名，奇峰雾海，天下独领，荣膺世界文化景观。鄱湖千里，碧波万顷，胸纳五河，大海气象，雄居中国第一大湖。湖口石钟耸立，江湖于此交汇，这边为长江滚滚金波，那边乃鄱湖茫茫银浪，泾渭分明，绵延数里，蔚为神州第一奇观。吴城候鸟王国，当属珍禽福地。最祥是白鹤飞临戏水，最壮为大雁引项高歌。万鸟云汇，不见首尾，誉之“华夏第二长城”⑤。柘林湖千岛浮翠楼阁飞丹，宛若蓬莱之仙境；修水河流韵溅诗仪态万千，尤如桂林之山水。洞有龙宫、狮子、涌泉、峨嵋，千奇百怪，别有“洞天”。寺有东林、真如、铁佛、能仁，暮鼓晨钟，声闻于世。耀邦陵前，松竹肃挺伟丈夫。岳母墓旁，花草陪伴不朽魂。四湖泛波⑥，李堤垂荫⑦。城中有湖，湖中有城。城与湖相拥，湖与城相亲。浔阳楼临江而立云霄九重，烟水亭湖中孤卧如幻如梦。锁江塔倾而不倒，号“江南比萨”。琵琶亭小巧玲珑，似“大唐丽人”。长江大桥横空出世南北飞架，历史名城平添雄伟壮丽风景。
